Not a lot of rain this week here, so barely a shroom in sight in the woods. Two Agaricus augustus, nothing else worth having. But was sad to see a bunny dead with myxie on the way in to the woods Always a bad start. Spotted another running away from me - still in excellent condition other than having lost his eyesight. Doomed to a painful death, so I rather had to intervene. Breaks my heart to have to kill an animal but with a disease as nasty as this it'd beak my heart more not to. If you find a bunny dying of myxie, and if you can put it out of its misery, then do so. Don't leave it to die slowly and painfully, it ain't fair on the poor little beast. You'll probably be able to creep up on it, and either rapid dislocation or a hard thump with a log to the back of the head will do the trick. Unless further infection has set in, or unless it really has started wasting away, it'll be perfectly good to eat. Give it a feel, see whether its worthwhile. Not an ideal hunting strategy by any means but, heck, waste not want not. Rabbit and pumpkin curry tonight...

It is a gutting sight to see, but like you say if it's possible to save them from a slow painful death then it's the most humane thing to do. Must admit I'd never realised you could potentially eat them afterwards though, I'd just assumed mixi meant no munchie

So if there are any signs of fly strike, or when you give them a feel they're obviously either wasting away or starving, you don't want to eat them. This particular rabbit was young, well fed, and delicious. Shame the poor blighter had to die, but as I say, waste not want not
