We've been talking about horns , I've not found them either but get good cauliflower finds most years as they are reoccurring in same spots

I'm in Kent, so would love to find chanterelles down here, also horn of plenty. I once found an area of the woods carpeted with them but I was about a week late in finding them as they were all well gone I would love to find some of the beautiful types of earth stars. Have yet to find cauliflower fungus too. Got you beat on the horn frustration. I saw 3 gone over mushrooms in the middle of beech woodland 30 minutes drive from my house. Looking at pictures that night I became convinced they were horns so drove back the next day, spent 45 minutes trying to find them, actually did find them..... and they really were just gone over mushrooms.

Tell me about it! I'm one of those people who seems to prefer every season to the summer. It's bad enough that it's generally uncomfortably hot (for me at least). Added to that I feel like I spend half my life watering and weeding the allotment and garden and it's kit into a winner really. I love the vibrant colours of autumn, not to mention the abundance of fruits, nuts and shrooms. Winter is magical for me. Being out on a cold crisp morning, that stillness that comes when the animals are huddled up and noone else is around, that is possibly the only time I feel completely peaceful. Still foragables in a few places hanging on too. Spring is the new growth, life returning, fresh greens etc etc
Basically summer is that guy who the other seasons don't really like but feel obliged to let him tag along because they're not mean enough to exclude him.

I'm after the elusive chaga. As far as I know not been found in East Anglia but has been recorded from Sussex up to the Scottish Highlands so should be here too. Keep checking birch trees but so far always turns out to be just another burr. Anyone know where I can get a chunk of fresh chaga conk to try and grow? (somewhere in Southeast England)

where you getting your info from Matt? ive never heard of it outside of scotland, my understanding was it needed a very low average temp to grow which you only get in north scotland mainly
