Hello there, I'm from the USA. I know it's a UK board.... Fact is, way more people are into wild foods and herbalism across the pond than over here. I'm always wanting to learn more about foraging and to find people of a like mind to banter and nerd out about plants with. I am a clinically trained herbalist & teach classes. I have been studying herbal medicine for 8 years and always will be as there is eternally more to learn! My husband is also a clinically trained herbalist in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and has about 24 years experience in all facets of the industry. Plants are awesome. So, I hope you don't mind me haunting the forums.

Howdy herbwise and welcome to the forum. I hope Foraginguk is about more than just the UK as it establishes, it's only a name and they can mean anything. I mean I once ate at a place called mega kebab. I'm not sure what was mega about it, but it was a kebab. Anyway, whilst there are plenty of differences in the pickings available each side of the pond I'd suspect there are more similarities. Sounds like you also bring a wealth of knowledge with you, it's a pleasure to have you here

Thank you both for the warm welcome! I'm looking forward to learning and sharing. Edenwildfood you have to try all of those they are delicious. Except I've never has saskatoon berries, so I can't say (sacrilegious of me, I used to live in Oregon!). But black raspberries are my favorite--way better than regular raspberries. I swiped some seeds from dried up berries off of a trail last week...they are going in my yard for sure. Wineberries are fabulous, I can't believe you've heard of them--most people here even don't know what they are. Great on ice cream. Paw Paws are delicious, I'm sure you've heard they taste just like a mix between mango and a banana with the texture of custard. I couldn't get over them when I first tried them. Amazing. Slightly past the paw paw season here now but there might still be some ripe fruit around. You have to be quick because as soon as one falls the bees and ants make remarkably fast work of them. Everything loves a paw paw. Hope you get to make your trek Saskatoons are Pacific NW (which is a freaking wonderland) but all those others you can find in Appalachia. Wineberries ripen about the 4th of July and are common around the Charlottesville VA area, Black Raspberries I think are late June, Paw Paw mid to late August depending how north/south in Appalachia you are. The Appalachian trail runs up and down the range through many states--popular with hikers.
